Philosophy

When a person gets stuck — in a behavioral pattern, feeling overwhelmed, having symptoms that are confusing or frightening — it can be difficult to find a way forward on their own. This happens to just about everyone at some point in their life, and getting an outside perspective from a trained professional can help. Asking for help takes strength, and self-awareness, and trust.

In therapy I provide a safe space for clients to tell their stories and get support. Together we explore underlying feelings, look at how history plays a part in the story, and examine patterns that may not be working any more. The goal is almost always to “feel better”, and we will work to make changes with this goal in mind. Some examples of how I help adults, adolescents, and couples are: to find relief from symptoms of anxiety and depression, to work through major life changes, to explore identity issues such as sexual orientation and gender identity, and to manage stress related to academic and sports performance, developmental transitions like growing up, and relationship concerns.

I would be happy to have a brief phone call with you to see if we might be a good fit to work together in therapy.
