My background and approach to psychotherapy
As a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), I have more than 10 years of experience providing psychotherapy for individuals, as well as traditional and alternative couples. My educational background includes a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) and a Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Psychology, both from the University of Michigan. I have worked in agency and private practice settings with a broad range of clients who vary in age, race, sexual orientation, religion, and/or socioeconomic status. My areas of expertise include: depression, anxiety, trauma/abuse, conflict in relationships, sexuality, LGBT issues, life transitions and development from adolescence through old age, and self-esteem.
My approach to therapy involves careful listening, attunement to each client’s individual situation, and defining goals collaboratively. I draw from a variety of theoretical modalities in my work, including: feminist/relational, psychodynamic, family systems, cognitive-behavioral, attachment theory, and self psychology. All sessions occur in an environment that fosters trust and safety, which are both prerequisites for change.
If you are struggling with a situation that has you feeling stuck, frustrated, isolated, or overwhelmed, it may be helpful to get an outside perspective. I would be happy to talk with you about the possibility of working together. An initial phone consultation is free of charge.
In addition to counseling individuals and couples, I also provide consultation and licensure supervision to other professionals in the field of mental health treatment.
